Vaccinations are important for all ages. Public health nurses working in immunization clinics can assess the immunization needs of all family members and make recommendations for MMR and Tdap in older members who did not realize they needed boosters. It only takes a few minutes to assess who lives in the family home and recommend a shingles vaccine for grandma. By the end of the visit, childhood immunizations have been given, and the parent has been educated on preventive strategies for others in the home.
